    Bug: No fiji dollar recogition

It’s strange, but you have listed countries in the pacific that are even less developed and less significant than Fiji (Samoa, Tonga) … Why? Well, that’s all, thaks, nice extension though

Hi nesiandude, sorry for missing out the Fiji dollar. I’ll see if I can put it in the next release.

I get the following error when trying to install:

Firefox could not install the file at

    http://hamstersoupe.com/ViewMyCurrency/ViewMyCurrency_v0.3897.xpi

    because: Download error
    -228

  • 4. Will Moffat  |  Sunday, 4th March at 12:38 am

Hi ICR, that’s strange that you get a download error. (The address in your comment is wrong, but I guess hamstersoupe is just a typo). You could try right-clickiing on the link and doing a Save Link As… then drag and drop the .XPI file into Firefox.

Let me know if it works out for you.

Request: please make the conversion appear in the web page and not as separate in the status bar.

for instance 42NIS(10$) near the price. I buy a lot on ebay and it’s very handy than to go in status bar and type the sum to be converted. Thanks a lot in advance. 😉 Besides that the converter is really awesome. Converts all the currencies.

Got it to work by downloading and then dragging, cheers.
Seems to work very nicely, better than i thought it would. There was a bug at some point whereby the Ok and Cancel buttons randomly moved down a little off the window, but I couldn’t replicate it.

I’ve used this add-on for a while and have found it very helpful.
But now it’s stopped working – every time I start FF I get an install dialogue, and even when finished, VMC does nothing and says every site i visit is blacklisted…?

Bug report: The popup converter doesn’t work while the open tab is an excluded site

Also, I think a visual design overhaul is in order… 🙂

  • 15. Will Moffat  |  Sunday, 18th March at 11:40 am

Hi Daniel, good point about the popup converter. Do you have any suggestions for a better GUI?

  • 16. Will Moffat  |  Sunday, 18th March at 11:41 am

Hi Jay, can you tell me if are you using the latest version 0.3897 ? You have to install it from this page, you don’t get it automatically via updates.

  • 17. Jay  |  Monday, 19th March at 1:37 am

I got a pop-up saying I was installing a new version a few days ago… I’ll be honest, I didn’t look what version was installing – I imagine it was the latest. After that I got the problems I mentioned above.
I tried reinstalling an older version, first from the Mozilla site (too old) then from here (ver 0.3895 I think) then I had error messages, then the auto-update box again after a bit more messing about, then the blacklist problem again.
I un-installed it completely, then got ver 0.3897 direct. So yes…

I’m taking delivery of a new Mac in a few days, so I’ll see how it fairs with a clean system install and let you know 🙂

Request: Display of Currency Code In addition to Symbol

Great app! Suggest/Request that there is the option to display currency code in addition to currency symbol. Particularly important for conversions between Austrialian, US, Canadian, etc. Eg Original: “$12.00” Converted: “$AUD 15.43 ($USD 12.00)”

  • 19. Will Moffat  |  Monday, 19th March at 3:34 pm

Hi John, that’s a good idea. I’m working on trying to show the difference between currencies using tooltips but if that proves too complex then I might take your approach.

  • 20. John Bentley  |  Tuesday, 20th March at 6:18 am

Hi Will. Thanks for the response. I would much prefer my approach over having to use a tool tip.

Although I don’t know much about Firefox extension programming I’m pretty good at DOM manipulation with javascript (which I presume extension programming exploits). If you want me to whip up some DOM code I’d be happy to help. It would seem you’ve got that well under your belt, though 🙂

Do we have a date when a release will hit Mozilla Add-ons?

  • 22. Will Moffat  |  Wednesday, 21st March at 1:03 pm

Hi John, thanks for the kind offer of help, you’re welcome to look at the code (just unzip the .xpi file) but it’s a bit of a mess right now. I’m planning to host it at MozDev once it’s cleaned up a bit.

Hi Sean, I’d estimate a month or so until I get a rock-solid version suitable for Mozilla Add ons. (But planning is difficult, especially if I end up on another caving expedition)

  • 23. John Bentley  |  Wednesday, 21st March at 2:51 pm

Hi will. Yeah my code can get messy too 🙂 Alas I see that I’d be required to learn JAVA. I’ll need to concentrate on other languages. Good luck.

  • 24. daniel  |  Wednesday, 21st March at 4:40 pm

Hi Will. Unfortunately, my design skill is way below the ground (maybe you can find it in your next cave expedition?)
But you can probably ask for help in your blog, or in the Firefox add-ons website – Maybe some good designers who love the extension will contribute their free time… 🙂

    Feedback: Wow! Wow! Wow! Fantastic!

Thank you so much for this extension. It is simply fantastic.
I have tried and used a few others before yours, and they are not match. It’s so simple, unobtrusive (very important), easily configurable, works well, and best of all, you even put in some keyboard shortcuts! I am very happy.

I can’t find anything wrong with it, but if I find a bug, I’ll let you know.

A suggestion just came to my mind: how about an (optional) way to highly the fact that the currency has been changed (eg: coloured background). Not sure how feasible it is, especially when the currency is part of a link description.

Could there be an option to disable the funny icon with the X sign beside “Off”? It’s very ugly.

Also when I enable/disable VMC funny things happened. See screenshot:

  • 28. jay  |  Sunday, 25th March at 9:55 pm

    hey!
just wanted to say it’s working now 🙂 – Firefox ran another auto-install this afternoon (still 0.3897 tho) and after a restart it’s fine!
I’ve just un-installed Spyware Doctor 5.0, which is a real pup by all accounts – causing me a great deal of grief it was too. So maybe it had something to do with that… I dunno.
thanks for a great extension anyway, new mac arrives tomorrow – you can be sure this’ll be one of the first add-ons to be installed 🙂

  • 29. bcire  |  Tuesday, 27th March at 9:33 am

Bug: Statusbar “ExcludedSites” overlaps previous and next statusbar buttons.

Hi, thanks for such a fantastic extension, I make very good use of it! 🙂

I have downloaded the latest version 0.3897 but the statusbar looks messy with the ExcludedSites text. I imagine that’s not supposed to be there, or the width of 8em for VMC.statusbarpanel should be auto or VMC.statuspanelProfile style should be display: none?

Either way, this isn’y gonna stop me using an invaluable tool!

    Kind Regards from Dublin, Ireland,

I see this is top of your “To Do” list!
I want to be able to set the currency of the page I am on, eg I am on a New Zealand Real Estate page ($NZ) and wish to convert to Australian ($A). As you say, it assumes the $ on the NZ page are $US and converts to $A.
Love the program though, nice feel

I live in sweden, sometimes I want to know the total price I would have to pay, i.e dollars * currency * variable = my price

variable = moms, its a fee we have to pay when importing something from outside the EU

Anyway, thank you for a very useful addon to firefox!

Then, I wanted to also know if you could create another complementary module in order to convert measuring units automatically:
Temperature: celsius – fahrenheit – kelvin
Mass :kilogram – gram – ounce – pound – carat
    Distance : centimeter – foot – inch – meter – mile

Thanks for an in other aspects useful plugin

    great tool indeed.

  • 63. Will Moffat  |  Thursday, 31st May at 10:29 am

Hi Gege, does it say ‘ExcludedSites’ in the status bar? If so then ViewMyCurrency is automatically turned off, probably because it is a secure https site and I didn’t want to convert online bank accounts. I’ll add an option to edit the Excluded Sites list in the next release.

  • 64. gege  |  Thursday, 31st May at 11:05 am

    yes it say excluded site.

    Hy.
Thanks for providing such a fine add-on.

Unfortunately, I cannot install 0.3897 because the Setup-Wizard never seems to stop after clicking the [Finish] button. Proxy tells me that it never tries to connect (download rates). In statusbar I get the Error:Off icon (no tooltip). When calling “preferences” from “Add-Ons” I get a message telling me to wait until Setup-Wizard has finished.

I get 2 entries in the info log:
ViewMyCurrency: Debug(3): StatusPanel status: SETUP_WIZARD_RUNNING undefined
    ViewMyCurrency: Debug(3): pref changed: debug_level

Apart from 0.3897 I didn’t try anything higher than 0.38 so far. Before gambling around with earlier versions or empty profiles I wondered if anybody else had seen this issue?

  • 66. Tarjei  |  Sunday, 3rd June at 11:44 pm

    Thanks for an excellent plugin!

I also get a “corrupty preferences” error after restarting FF (Internal Error(0): failed to find EUR in list) with 0.3897.

    Hope you can fix that!

Request: When there will be available conversion to Bosnian Convertible Marks.

    For example : 1 € = 1.95 KM ( Bosnian Convertible Mark)

And I want to ask is it possible to make a symbol(the one in the green circle in the status bar) which will show “kn”(for Croatian
kuna(HRK)) in that green circle background instead of Japanese symbol for Yen ?
And the same thing I would like to see,if it ever will be possible at all, for Bosnian Convertible Mark .
If it will be possible it should show “KM” in green circle background before BAM KM .

Currency is BAM symbol is KM for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

    Everything else works great.

Thanks for this great add-on !!!

    Bug: status bar icon

Status bar icon is TOO LONG or TOO BIG – it overlaps with other status bar icons. The OFF/ON part of the icon is on top of one of my other icons on the right (doesn’t really matter what that icon is, but let’s just say it is Linkification or Adblock). And the ExcludedSites part of the icon is on top of any icons on the left. It doesn’t seem to reserve the space it takes up. I only started having this problem once I upgraded from 0.3895 to 0.3897 (I tried going back to 0.3896 but that didn’t fix the problem). Can you provide a download link for 0.3895 somewhere while working on a fix. Thanks a lot for the great extension. A minor workaound for now is just to turn off status bar icon so at least i have that. Environment: Firefox 2.0.0.4, Windows XP SP2, Athlon 64, 1GB RAM.

Request: Hide from google search history?

I am seeing a bunch of automated currency searches in my google history which I presume are coming from this extension. My iGoogle/google personalized homepage has a search history gadget to show recent searches, but much of the time, what I am looking for is crowded out by currency updates. This is only a minor irritation, but it is an irritation nonetheless.

I’m not sure it is even possible for an automated process to hide from google search history without changes at the google end, but i thought it might be worth asking.

Viewmycurrency 0.3897 was working absolutely fine until this morning when I ran a routine update check for my extensions. As a result I upgraded 5 or 6 extensions, and when I restarted Firefox your brilliant extension was broken and an error message was showing on screen. By a process of elimination I’ve discovered it is Colorful Tabs which is the guilty party. A shame as it’s a great extension in its own right. But as soon as I disable it and reinstall Viewmycurrency then your extension works again.

Bug: Excluded list – ver 0.3897

A few days ago I started losing VMC from the sites where I use it most. The status bar gizmo would give me a message “This site is in your excluded list.”

    Huh?

What excluded list? There’s no excluded list under options, and I don’t recall ever having heard of one.

Clicking on “Hide recognized,” then clicking on it again, would reactivate VMC for that site.

    Sheesh.

Is there really a user-editable excluded list?

[Nb – I have Firefox set to open everything in new tabs, not new windows, yet the VMC popup loads links in new windows – very irritating]

Maybe you could also implement measurement conversions? Automatically converting inches to centimetres would be really good.

Request: No need to convert Australian (or other local pages) to local currencies.

I notice that while converting to Australian currency that all pages are considered to be in US dollars even though the page I am viewing is a .au domain name.

It may be prudent to allow local domain name pages for each currency to be omitted from conversion. Also the addition of a black & white list to customise would be a great idea.

I now realise you can ‘hide recognised’, but this still seems to convert prices up on this particular page.

i.e., for point 3 of this page there is a price of AU$2,300 displayed on the page when viewmycurrency is disabled. However, when enabled with ‘hide recognised’ the price is displayed as AU$2,550 with only a single price displayed.

This is doubly confusing as I would expect the ‘hide recognised’ not to convert when only a single price is displayed.

    Maybe I am missing something?

Request: Display data source update date/time stamp

Continued thanks for a great app. My suggestion is to add the date/time of the exchange rates that you are using. Perhaps in the status bar. At least in the options dialogue box. It would be nice to know, with visual feedback, that I’m not using out of date data.

    Feedback: interface issues

I tried your charming extension converting from USD to Israeli Shekels:

    1. The statusbar icon seems a bit large to me… might you change it to the currency symbol alone?

    2. Maybe the context menu could not only open the toolbar but show the text “(old currency symbol) -> (new currency symbol) (number)” and when clicked open the bar to change currencies?

    3. It seems to have a problem with Classic Compact theme or the Organize status Bar extension that prevent from left clicking to turn conversion on/off.

    4. The accuracy setting is a bit vague… what do you mean by “above 10”? for me it cut the numbers after the period when on, which I didn’t want. Maybe it could be off by default and defined as a number for “accuracy after period” or something like that?

    5. I think the currency rates update time and the old currency symbol could be shown in a tooltip when hovering the statusbar icon. This way you’ll know you are getting a reliable conversion.

    6. Maybe the user could also set old and new currencies for the all page using menu that will open by clicking two neighboring status bar icons showing their symbol with arrow of the converting direction between? and clicking the arrow could reverse the direction. It seems simpler then all thet text recognition.

    6. I’d love to hear when this Alpha version hit the road. Will it be updated automatically like the other extensions?

    7. Thank you!

Back on July 16th, I left a comment here about how much it bugged me that Google search history was being clogged with three-times-day exchange rate checks – a line for each currency.

I cut down the number of currencies to the bare minimum, which reduced the utility of VMC, and put up with it several more months, but today I am disabling VMC.

I could live with VMC if it only spammed Google history every couple of days – I might even put some of the removed currencies back in – but three times a day is too often.

Please give us a choice of update frequency (including manual-only) or find some way to keep the rate updates out of Google history.

I will watch for a new version & give VMC another try then.

I have an ISA proxy here at work, and when I installed this addon, firefox restarted and won’t load any pages (just sits there with an empty page). Removing your addon & restarting makes firefox work fine.

I imagine it’s because of the proxy.. but who knows – i have lots of extensions it may be clashing with?

it seems that the update rates function is giving wrong exchange rates starting about a week ago. The add on was working almost perfect and without updating firefox started giving wrong values. As I can see from the latest comments I was not the only one who noticed that something went wrong.

Bug: Something has broken the fetching of currencies (values incorrect)

Hi, first great tool. Love it.

But something has happend to the data from where you get the exchange rate. I switch currency between the Danish Kroner and the South African rand. The US dollar is being indicated at almost 1 exchange rate – most definately incorrect. Other currencies such as the British Pound and Euro are also sometimes incorrect. Concerns any webpage, since the exchange rate is incorrectly calculated/fetched.

There is a bug with the EUR/USD exchange rate. The program seems to use the reciprocal of the actual exchange rate.

    That gives results like ” €3,488 ($2,199.99) ” on http://www.pricegrabber.com.

Ah.. got it… in the options panel – currencies tab click on the exchange rate value itself. The options on the right then show amongst other things a drop-down box for the quote source. Change this from google to webservicex and you’re good to go again. (do that for every currency in your list, except for your default currency which is 1 by default of course)
At least it works for me anyway.

  • 150. Kyle  |  Friday, 25th April at 5:05 pm

When I am on the amazon.co.uk page it is converting currency, but when I start going through the checkout process it stops and “Excluded Sites” is displayed at the bottom. Where do I find the excluded sites list so I can remove this? I want to see the conversion throughout checkout.

  • 152. Kyle  |  Sunday, 27th April at 3:16 pm

Figured out why amazon was not displaying conversion–it’s because you blindly exclude all https sites assuming they are banking sites–this should be optional for the user.

Browsing newegg I found an item for $184.99 USD, VMC converted this to £277 GBP where as it should have been ~£95 GBP according to exchange rates at the time. XE.com also confirms this.

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the extension but it still happens.

I’ve never experience this problem with VMC but this is a new install of XP/FF 2.0.0.14 and I can’t seem to shake this bug.

    Bug: Converting Wrong currency

    Hi,
love this tool, but sometimes it get confused. I have set the default currency to US dollars. However when I log onto my adwords account (in UK Sterling) and then apply the ‘Convert to USD’ it actually converts to it UK Sterling but displays it as dollars.!

Let me explain with an example. On the web page I have some Sterling totals:
    £30

I then ‘Convert to USD’, it then displays the value:
    $15

    where as it should be
    $60

. I remember last time I fixed this by changing the currency lookup service froim google to another. However I can’t see to find this on the new version.

Another bug is that its messing up the tool bar at the bottom of firefox. I can send a screen shot if you like, but I need a email.

IS this a joke? Why aren’t you doing anything about your program?? This is absurd! If you just blew it, I’d understand – it didn’t work out, you’re abondoning the project, life goes on. But you’re making an effort, changing icons, increasing speed and so on – of a program that is NOT FUNCTIONAL: it was convenient to have euro and dollars translated into my currency – but now what I get is some bizarre button that instead of converting euro to pln [at rate about 4,5], multiplies by 9000!

The plugin works fine, as long as it gets proper currency information. The default Google source has apparently changed its format, so conversions go haywire.

As mentioned above by me and at lease one other, you can change the source in the options panel.

Go to the options, then the currencies tab. On that tab, you see the list of converted currencies with their exchange rate behind it.
Now click on all the exchange rates (not the currency abbreviation in the left column!) and on the right you’ll see a set of fields.
Open the quote source drop-down and select something other than google (webservicex for me). Do that for every currency in your list. Your default currency is always 1 obviously.
Then hit the ‘update now’ button and everything should be fine again.

If anything can be blamed on the author, it’s the fact that he doesn’t adapt the plugin to the new google data format. Other than that, this plug works just fine. (although control over the excluded sites list would be on my wishlist as well)

GOOGLE appears to be the problem!

As mentioned previously TO FIX THE BUG you need to change the source of the exchange rates.

To do this, go to options, currency tab then click on one of the cells in the ‘grid’ (but not the currency name), you will then see “quote source” appear on the RHS. If you don’t see it at first, try clicking on a different column. Change this from google to ‘webservice x’ for all of the currencies. Then do an update of the currencies.

    This should fix it.

Bug: Danish krone (DKK/kr.) and USD ($) rates are wrong

First of all, thanks for a excellent program! I’ve been using this for more than a year now and have recomended it to countless people.

Unfortunaly, the $USD currency rate has been wrong for the last couple of months, making ViewMyCurrency “unusable” for us 😦

We’ve all been using the latest update (ALPHA) release, but even the stable one has this problem, so it seems to be a problem from the server where you download the exchange rates from.
As of right now, the correct exchange rate for 1.00 $ would be 4.7243 kr. while ViewMyCurrency reports 1.00$ to be 0.2 kr.

You can see the correct rates at Yahoo on the following page http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/convert?amt=1&from=USD&to=DKK&submit=Convert

I hope you will be able to fix this, as this program has become more than standard for us all 🙂

Keep up the good work, and thanks again for this brilliant program!

Bug: When using Google (standard) as source, the wrong rate is shown.

When using Google (standard) as source, the wrong rate is shown. If I change the source to WebServiceX, it gives me the correct exchange rates. It seems to me that when Google is the source, the rate is for USD/DKK and not for DKK/USD as it should be and as it is when I use WebServiceX.

I have a big problem to use this extension with firefox 3. Impossible to install, I have a message “impossible to install, update non secure” (translate from french)

  • 185. Mathieu  |  Wednesday, 18th June at 12:23 am

Any idea how to get this (by now vital) plugin working in firefox 3? as stated above, FF3 says the plugin doesn’t provide secure updates.

yeah… so what? Anyway… FF3 is blocking it.

  • 186. Tony  |  Thursday, 19th June at 7:02 am

    Mathieu ,

i get the same message as you, its a shame it doesn’t work as i find it a very useful program.

  • 187. Christian  |  Thursday, 19th June at 6:51 pm

“Viewmycurrency” will not be instaled because does not provide secure updates.

This is the message that appears after trying to install the latest alpha in FF3, downloaded yesterday at the Download Day.

I was using this amazing extension in my FF2, and works OK, but now, It seems that cannot be installed in FF3.

If could be a possibility of run viewmycurrency in FF3, all of us will be very grateful.

This is one of the best currency extensions of FF and a must!

Have a nice day and cogratulations for this great work.

Guys who have in trouble installing it read this:

    Follow these steps:

////1. Open a Firefox browser window, and enter about:config in the address bar. Press enter. A list of settings will be displayed.
    2. Right click somewhere in the displayed list, and select New -> Boolean.
    3. Enter extensions.checkUpdateSecurity as the name, and select false as the value.

Afterwards you should be able to install the extension as normal.///

But.. extension still doesnt work correctly. Exchange rates are totally wrong. I solved this problem by manually correcting exchange values in prefs.js and set service as WebServiceX instead of Google. Then just blocked http://www.webservicex.net wesite in hosts file so currency rates wont be updated any more by plugin. When needed, i just correct them manually. Dirty and uncomfortable method but it works!

    Bug: Rates are way off..

Hi, just tried out this extension. Great functionality, but the currencies are totally wrong. I have EUR set as my currency, and in the options, ViewMyCurrency reports the following rates: USD $ = 1 EUR, GBP £ = 0.3158 EUR etc. In reality, at the moment 1USD = 0.63510 EUR and 1GBP = 1.26226 EUR. I also tested this in practice, and it truly gives wrong values, according to the rates it lists… It gives wrong values with both Google and WebServiceX as quote source (and I did check, the rates were right at Google’s end)…

Also, would it be somehow possible to have the currency conversion on and still see, for example, the word AUDIO as it is, and not € (822 AUD)IO?

  • 193. Chris  |  Friday, 27th June at 3:33 pm

    @Visa
You can find prefs.js in your FF profile folder. Default path is:
    C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.blabla
Make sure you do backup of prefs.js before you edit it! Also.. t’s better to configure all stuff as you need using FF2 as it seems that you cant configure anything in FF3 using addon’s user interface. Then copy all the lines beginning with “user_pref(“extensions.viewmycurrency.” overwriting accordinly these on FF3 prefs.js. For example, exchange rate values X you need manually correct are:
    EUR-AUD-X.XXXX-WebServiceX-……

Thanks for this amazing addon Will !
    Brilliant idea, Excellent implementation.

    Downloaded 0.3897.
Modified install.rdf – removed UpdateURL, changed MaxVersion to 3.0.1 as it wont install on Firefox 3.0.1
While some of the Conversion rates like Euro to Indian Rupee ( INR ) were correct others like USD to INR were incorrect. It showed
    1 USD = Rs.110 when actually it is 1 USD = Rs. 43 .
    Maybe a conflicting addon.

BTW, it conflicts with Fast Dial.

    Keep testing.

    All the best,
    MW

    Hi Will,

Modified the js to fetch all conversion rates from webservicex coz those from google gave incorrect values.

Now it runs on 3.0.1 real smooth and fast like my ferrari.

There are a few smaller conflicts though, I’d try to debug.
I guess it qualifies for a beta now.

    Keep testing …

    Hi

Will seem not to be here since march….

MW, do I understand right you are working on this extension to make it compatible again ?

I was using 0.3895 because it does work with https web site like my PC Banking (converting Euros to our old, before Euro currency)

Do you think there can be an option in the extension or another version which will be compatible with secured web site and FF 3.0.1 ?

  • 202. MW  |  Friday, 25th July at 10:02 am

@Lucien – Hi Lucien, howz going?

While I do think that I’d be able to modify the extension to some extent and make it work as required by you, let me tell you that this is my second day with this amazing addon and I’d definitely need to upgrade my little brain to decipher its logic.

Lucien, would you please state your requirements in precise words along with your usage history ( Fx and VMC version numbers ).

    Help me help you.

@Will – Hey wiz, am I allowed to do this?

    Thanks

    @Will Moffat

Hi! Nice to see you are alive! I know you probably are hesitant to release the source of this great plugin, but I really think alot of people would be very grateful for a small update, with these modest modifications:

Firefox 3 compatibility (This plugin is the only reason I don’t upgrade)

    Fixed google updates

Remove the https restriction (those few having problems with https pages being updated, just have to be careful disabling it)

These 3 problems is all it would take to make the plugin perfect again, and would make a lot of people happy!

I, for one, would not mind even paying for this plugin, if it was updated regularly.

Again, nice to hear from you, and thanks for the great tool!

    dexus.

  • 205. MW  |  Friday, 25th July at 1:46 pm

    Hi,

On behalf of Will, I just reiterate that VMC has always been Open Source. It is released under MPL 1.1/GPL 2.0/LGPL 2.1 ; which means it’s free for use as well as modification.

@Will – wouldn’t it be great if this is mentioned in the About. I guess there must be a good reason for the ‘https’ restriction, but it could have a disable option.

@Dexus – The three improvements suggested ‘appear’ to be minor changes in code, but it needs proper regression testing.
Someone has to spend his nights and weekends doing it.

Guys, please tell me the most frequently visited websites ( which you want VMC to work with ), most common ‘From’ currencies, most common ‘To’ currencies. It would help in testing. I’m from India and not sure about the websites and currencies commonly used.

@Will – The correct symbol for Indian Rupee(INR) is Rs. and not Rp. So the Unicode character ‘RUPEE SIGN’ (U+20A8) renders it correctly as Rs.
Rp. is the symbol for Indonesian Rupiah(IDR). I don’t think its a bug. Please update ToDo list.

@Dexus – If you talk about paying for this, I’d say, you’re at the wrong address. A kind word of appreciation is all that is needed to fire up the engine.

Lastly, guys, correct me if I am wrong somewhere.
And no offence intended to anyone.

    Thanks
    -MW

    Bug: Exchange rate update

It would seem that the default exchange rates are gathered from google, and they appear to be faulty(not the rate that a manual google search would return) The webex exchange rates are ok. Now this would not be a big issue if it would not revert back to google at every auto-update(every 8 hours) So either fix the google update, or make it so that webex is default/the one selected remains selected when the update takes place.
    Thanks in advance.

  • 219. Rohit Kakar  |  Saturday, 7th March at 9:37 pm

My suggestion for making VMC work on FF3.

    1. Download the file (use the save as … ) on to your desktop. You should get a file name like “viewmycurrency.xpi” or something like that.
    2. Open the .xpi file (which U just downloaded) with any unzip utility
    3. In this .xpi file you will find a lot of files …. in particular a file called “install.rdf”
    4. Open this file in a text editor, and go to the paragraph marked with “install” and delete all the way till the end of the paragraph, (marked with another “install”).
    5. Now you have taken care of the “secure updates” error without fiddling with FF3
    6. Look for another word like “maxVersion”. There would be a 3.0.0* by its side. Replace the 3.0.0* with just a 3.*
    7. Save the changes to install.rdf
    8. Save the changes into the .xpi file
    9. Right click this file and open it with Firefox. This will install the modified version on your browser without a hitch.

I hope it helps atleast 1 person.

PS – I don’t know what to do about the fickle exchange rates.
