Firefox Currency Converter – ViewMyCurrency 0.3892 (alpha) released

Wednesday, 22nd February at 7:07 pm 7 comments

Changes:

  • The currency conversion is now split into multiple threads. ViewMyCurrency should seem more responsive and ‘Unresponsive Script’ warnings should be reduced. Let me know if you still get them.
  • Added visual cues. During conversion statusbarpanel goes green during currency conversion and bold if something was changed on the page. This is an attempt to discreetly remind people that they are looking at a modified page. Thanks for the feedback Peter.

Please let me know if you think this is an improvement.

Minor changes:

  • Added: Highlight changes option (hidden debugging option)
  • Added: validation of summary field in Give Feedback (highlights in red if empty). Thanks Peter
  • ‘Finish’ button is now ‘Add to website’. Thanks Simon
  • Startup Wizard now always includes EUR, USD and GBP in default currency list

Install the ViewMyCurrency extension Download from the Install page (or via automatic update)

$A is also used for australian currency

VMC doesn’t seem to work on google news pages

the feedback option doesn’t work — in FF anyway — because it doesn’t fill in the message on the website

Hi Ken, thanks for your comment. I can’t reproduce these problems, if you have 5 minutes I would be very grateful if you could Skype me, (username: ViewMyCurrency) or catch me on MSN (will_moffat@hotmail.com) so we can quickly figure out what’s going on.

Hi Will. first of all good job on the extension, its great! but i do have tow problem.
The first is that NIS (new Israeli shekel) is still written as “ILS”.
Second, when i right click in the status bar i get a blank menu:

this is not new.. i got this from 2-3 builds ago..
    thnx..

Hi Tomer, thanks for the feedback. I’m showing the ISO 4217 code + symbol for each currency (so you see USD $, EUR €, GBP £ etc) and for the New Israeli sheqel it is ‘ILS ₪’. Does this make sense?

I show the ISO code because many currencies share the same symbol.

The missing menu is a serious bug that I haven’t seen before. Have you installed a Firefox theme? I’d like to solve this problem, could you contact me? (see my previous comment).

    Bug: Another Wikipedia bug

Conversion is fine but the euro sign is a link the Pound and not the Euro. I know this isn’t an easy problem but it’s worth mentioning…

    At http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
    ——- I saw: ————
Bank robbers make off with at least €36.61 (£ 25) million in the Securitas depot robbery, one of the largest in United Kin
    ——- Expected to see: —
The same but the URL should be under the Pound and not the Euro.

Hi Pheloxi, cheers, I had a look and found that the website uses the Italian Lira symbol, not the UK pound sign. If we find lots more examples then maybe I should add the Lira symbol to the GBP symbol list but I hope it doesn’t come to that.
